During the project, I was given the job to create the stills for Janet Jackson‘s animated introduction at the Opening Ceremony. The task was to provide a series of digital designs and creative directions for the LED screens at the Meydan Racecourse to draw audience to her performance. The concept behind this piece was to use a combination of colours with strong contrast to reinforce the excitements and atmosphere of the performance, so as to highlight Janet Jackson’s stage theme ‘Unbreakable’. A Neon-light look was introduced, which gave a flashing and fiery impression to capture audience’s attention. The design was later fully animated by the in-house animation team.

I was honoured to have worked in their dedicated design team for 2016’s screen designs for the Dubai World Cup National Ceremony and Opening Ceremony.
The Patterns
My creative direction for the animators was to use zig-zag shapes creating a blindfolded Marquee effect that reveals the Star from the centre of the LED screen. A trace of glowing outline moves towards the centre of the screen to bring attention to the main focus point. Texts are also shown each side of the main screen, inviting audiences to the performance
Side Banner
On the edge of the patterns, a glow is introduced and aimed to animate towards the centre of the screen. On the side panels, the glow also moves towards the end of the screen as to drew attention to the centre panel.
